Polly Was a Prisoner

from Faux Real by The Turnbucklers

/

lyrics

Polly was a prisoner proper poor.
Been slaving and behaving since the age of four,
but tonight, tonight she’s born.
There was a witch who was a bitch always locked her door.
Crushed her with the cane and bashed her in the brain.
But tonight, tonight she’s born.

Polly, are you listening?
Take my hand and run.
Into the sun.
There must be brighter days.

Polly picked a pencil from the paper drawer.
Stabbed her in the eye and broke her spinal chord
She screamed, “Tonight, tonight I’m gone!”
We hit the road hard running through the trees.
The witch appeared in the smoky breeze.
She screamed, “Tonight, tonight you die!”

Polly fell down a rocky cliff.
Looked me in the eye, what she said was this,
“Tonight, tonight I’m born!”
